Blue J Iris Seedling

BLUE J IRIS Seedling

SA

Standards pale

Falls pale orchid fading to near-white along the edges

Somewhat bronze veining at the hafts?

Falls flare

Orange beards are tipped white, and end in spoons that echo the falls color

This iris first bloomed for me some years ago, while in a one gallon pot. It was a surprise to me, as this was supposed to be 'Sweet Orange Spice'.

When I contacted Blue J Iris (the source), I was told that it was an unnamed seedling, and that was pretty much it. No info on parentage, no request to have it back.

This iris (and two others also supposedly 'Sweet Orange Spice') were in one gallon pots. I think one of them got lost or died (at that time I was still working out what to do, and what NOT to do, regarding watering pots of irises), and another subsequently bloomed and had an ugly muddy bloom, so it got tossed.

Right now I have two x one gallon pots with NOID irises (a named iris went MIA in that same time frame), one of which I think (I hope) is this iris. (Neither pot has bloomed in the past two seasons, so I will have to divide the irises down to one rhizome per pot.)

I liked the delicate coloration of the bloom and the SA spoons/flounces/whatever they are, although the stalk seemed a little short and the bloom perhaps a little smaller than my other (at that time, all TB) bearded irises. Maybe it is a BB or IB - it is definitely too tall to be a SDB.

If I do still have it, I might make some crosses with it. I would love to see this face with more ruffles, on a bigger TB that reblooms.
