This iris has been in the garden for a long time. I think that I may have originally gotten it from a box at OSH, but I could be wrong. (If so, I hope it is the correct cultivar. I re-purchased a plant from an iris nursery in 2017 to make a comparison.) I almost lost the plant due to increasing shade and compacted soil; I had to dig and rescue the few remaining rhizomes in 2015. They were planted out back in the East Rose Arbor in 2016, but did not bloom in 2017. This iris, although not registered as such, has a nice fragrance which I think of as "iris". (I'm not sure how to describe it... sweet, musty, a bit like grape soda?) It is paired with 'Afternoon Delight', where its dark purple color helps pick up the lavender in 'Afternoon Delight'.
