BUSY BEING BLUE x SECOND FIDDLE

or else reciprocal cross

Many years ago, I made my first (and only, until this season, 2017) iris crosses. At the time, I crossed 'Busy Being Blue' with 'Second Fiddle', both ways.

Not understanding a thing about iris genetics (and for some reason, thinking that 'Busy Being Blue' was a rebloomer), I was hoping for a rebloomer.

Nope, didn't happen.

I did, however, keep this one seedling out of the twelve or so that I got from my crosses.

We were doing landscape construction at that time, everything was chaotic, and I think some labels may have fallen out or gotten switched. I believe that the pod parent for this seedling was 'Busy Being Blue', but I can't 100% swear to it.

Like its early parent (BBB), this seedling is also early; FFO in 2017 was on April 1st or 2nd, less than a week later than FFO for 'Busy Being Blue' on March 27th.

In 2017 I took pollen from this seedling and crossed it onto 'Autumn Thunder'. (The pod at the time of this writing is still hanging on, and will be the last iris pod of the season to be harvested.)
